Counseling Mission Statement


DeKalb School Counselors design and manage comprehensive counseling programs to help students acquire necessary skills in the academic, college/career, and social/personal domains for living in a multicultural society.



The mission of the Miller Grove Middle School Counseling Department is to provide a program that advocates for the holistic development and academic success of all students, while preparing them to become lifelong learners in a global society.

Our comprehensive guidance program centers on the personal, social, educational, and career needs of all students, as we help to bridge the gap between parents and all community stakeholders.


Your Middle School Counselor:
 

· Advocates on behalf of all students
· Provides counseling to students on an individual basis
· Provides counseling to students in small groups
· Conducts monthly classroom guidance lessons on counseling topics
· Provides career guidance for students to identify career goals and develop HS & Postsecondary plans
· Maintains confidentiality in all services provided to students
· Consults with parents, teachers,  administrators, social workers, outside agencies and others to  ensure the academic, emotional, and social success of our students
· Coordinates school wide events and activities to promote a positive school    climate
· Participates in Student Support Team     services
· Encourages students to recognize their potential and make the best of their own unique capabilities
· Helps children cope with emotional crisis.
· Coordinates and facilitates school mentoring programs
